Myvatn Travelling
Mývatn is a lake found in a volcanically active area in northern Iceland. Its name comes from the great number of midges or flies that are usually seen there during the summer. The lake, along with the wetlands that surround it, boasts of a wide variety of water birds, particularly ducks.

Mývatn-Laxá Nature Conservation Area
According to scientists, the lake came into being after a large lava eruption occurred about 2,300 years ago. In fact, the landscape surrounding Mývatn features many volcanic landforms and lava pillars. The lake, as well as the wetlands and the nearby Laxá river, are a protected nature reserve known as the Mývatn-Laxá Nature Conservation Area. Those who come to visit this interesting geological landmark will also get to see the Krafla volcano.
