Exploring the magnificent country of Nordic traditions and myths on your vacation should not be done without a perfectly-functioning camera in tow. The many unique attractions in the “Land of fire and ice” beg to be captured on film, shared with many and viewed time and again (with awe). Who wouldn’t? This nation has sceneries that can hardly be found elsewhere!

However, while successfully recording geyser activity is one thing, conserving such documentation is another, and is essential. Imagine the gravity of your frustration upon discovering that the pictures (or footage) you took in your one-of-a-kind holiday either got lost or destroyed. Those precious shots cannot be duplicated that easily (that is, if it could be done so at all).

To avoid this most unfortunate situation, do take heed of these tips in safekeeping your visual mementos from your astounding Icelandic experience:

Save digital copies on a data storage device

You can burn them on a CD or DVD, which should be appropriately labelled and kept in an area designated for such kinds of items that can protect it from dust and moisture. You can even creatively unify them into a montage or a video compilation, with music and captions. You will worry less about physical deterioration of the images, or even of accidental deletions.

Upload them online

Post them on your Facebook account, or other social networking sites that allow this function. You can also publish them at a photo-sharing site like Flickr. Whichever you prefer, make sure you choose to do so at reliable website or online galleries. Or you can create one of your own, in the form of a travel blog. Doing these will help you avoid the risk of losing pictures through uncontrollable circumstances like floods or fires.

Keep printed versions

This is another way of ensuring that you still have copies of your precious moments when the virtual storage options have failed. If you opt to do the job of churning them out from your laser jet yourself, make sure you use acid-free paper. This is because acid promotes fading, yellowing and rapid damage of snapshots. Not only that, albums should contain none of this substance as well. Choose photo-safe plastics like polyester or polyethylene. Do spray the images with “Preserve It!” (or other similar products) evenly beforehand.

In addition, store them away from sunlight, or damp places. Clean them regularly, too, to prevent the development of moulds or stains. Organise them well, and keep them in a specific place. This is so that when you want to walk down memory lane, you know where to find them.

Going to a country with wonderful tourist spots is definitely a memorable way to spend the holidays. Being able to visit the beautiful historical museums, national parks, white sand beaches, and other famous destinations in the area is truly fun. Apart from that, one of the most exciting details when spending vacation in a beautiful place is staying in the luxurious hostelries in the land. Enjoying the fabulous amenities, eating in fine dining restaurants, and getting quality customer service from their staff is one way of making a vacation a lifetime to cherish.

Especially if you will visit the lovely country of Iceland, you will find a number of exquisite hotels that most tourists love to stay at during their travel. These establishments have been known for their first-class accommodations and high-class facilities that most tourists adore. That is why entrepreneurs investing in this kind of industry must have ample financial resources coupled with sincere dedication and hard work to make the venture successful.

When opting to invest in this business, one important thing that you need to consider is the utmost safety of the establishment. An effective way of doing so is by getting insurance. This is an indispensable means of ensuring the protection of the business and as well as the guests staying therein. This kind of industry involves certain risks such as fire, theft, and other forms of perils. That is why it is important to have it covered to ensure that the premises and the dwellers are protected at all times.

There are a number of benefits when getting a policy for the company. Here are some of them.

Obtaining one means that there is a back-up in case accidents or calamities happen. There would definitely be parts of the inn which would be destroyed or deteriorated. But because the building is covered, then the insurer will provide some reimbursement to answer for the damages incurred.

When getting public liability insurance, you can obtain certain advantages as well. This is essential especially when meeting accidents like when one of the waiters unintentionally dropped a glass of hot coffee to a customer. When the guest would stake a claim against the owner, the insurer will assist in paying for the damages.

By getting a cover, the holiday accommodation will be secured and protected from whatever threats or perils that it may encounter. Keeping the building safe will attract more guests especially that they are certain that they are safe and out of harm when staying in the hostel. Through this, the hotel will become very popular and more people will be enticed to stay there. Investing in this kind of industry in Iceland is definitely lucrative and worthwhile especially that there are lots of people from all parts of the globe that visit this lovely destination.

The entertainment industry in Iceland has been blessed to have a stunning list of famous artists and musicians who have shared to the world their talents. One of the most renowned names that have truly made a mark in the hearts of many people and made the country proud is Björk. Who is she and how did this woman become as successful as she is now? Let us take a journey on her road to success.

Beginnings
Born and raised by an electrician dad and an activist mum, she started her musical career on the piano at the age of eleven. She was discovered by a recording outfit when her recording, sent by one of her music instructors, was aired in a nationwide radio station.

Influences
At the age of fourteen, she was listening to punk and jazz fusion. In fact, these inspired her to form one band after another even before she graduated. A few years thereafter, she was drawn to Gothic rock and collaborated with various musicians and produced several albums. It was then during this time that her distinct singing style, characterised by shrieks and howls, set her apart from all other stars.

Pop and Dance
As soon as her bands were dissolved for one reason or another, she went to pursue a solo career in London. It was then that she partnered with big producers in creating her début album and first hit. With much success, these two made it to the international charts, with the former even reaching the platinum mark in the United States. From then on, she received worldwide acclaim for her musical brilliance. Also, because of her interests in dance and techno, it opened a lot of doors for her to write for big names like Madonna.

Beats and Strings
A dramatic change happened in her career when she released an album that she personally conceptualised. This experimental and emotionally charged work fused distinct Icelandic music with rock electronic tones. It was released in DVD, which inspired other singers to add multimedia features to their singles as well. Aside from reigning on the charts, her videos were also getting praises from MTV and its fans.

Film
Björk did not limit herself to making hits. In 1990, although intermittent, she began her acting career when she appeared in a movie about witchcraft. Sometimes, she was asked to write or produce musical scores as well. In one of these projects, she was nominated in the 2001 Oscars for Best Song. Aside from doing drama and musicals, she likewise appeared in a 2005 documentary about the music scene in her country.

Over the years, this shining star has helped a lot of new acts to become established recording artists themselves. Indeed, with Iceland’s rich culture, it is not surprising for it to produce brilliant talents in the entertainment industry. And there is no doubt that it will continue to do so in the future.

Most of them have totally forgotten spending some of their time reading various forms of written literary work. These creations include beautiful classic poetries, essays, natural science, and more.

These artistic work are a true expression of beauty of this world that we are living in which we barely care to notice. You can feel the sentiments and experiences of the writer as you go through each lines of the writing.

By reading these wonderful creations, you can also tell the history and culture of a certain place. One of the most popular countries which have beautiful literary pieces is Iceland. This wonderful nation in Europe is popular for the literatures that were written during the medieval times and was divided in to three parts.

The Eddas

This is a collection of various Old Norse poetry and stories in the earlier centuries. It also talks about various mythological events. The first manuscript written is known as Codex Regius, which was found in the southern part of the country by a bishop.

Skaldic poetry

This was made by the well-known skalds or the famous poets of their land. It was usually sung in order to pay respect to the kings and nobles and to commemorate important events. It was made with various figures of speech and comes with a strict metric system, making it more interesting to read.

Sagas

These are prose stories that pertain to historic facts like voyages of Vikings in discovering the unexplored parts of the land and other realistic events. Some mythological references were, however, incorporated in order to add more colour to the writings.

In the sixteenth century, rhymed epic poems, autobiographical prose, and more forms of artistic writings were created. Two hundred years later, there was a literary revival. One of the most famous poets during those times was Jonas Hallgrimsson, author of the first Icelandic novel. After the first world war, classical as well as modernist styles were merged, making these creations more exciting and out of the ordinary.
This lovely nation is definitely an interesting place. If you want to know more information about Iceland, then browse through this website now.

Are you living in a country where the weather is quite hot and humid? If you are, you might want to emulate the coolness of northern European countries such as Iceland right in your bedroom. Here are some suggestions to make your abode cooler and more comfortable.

First, get rid of clutter and extra furniture. Having lots of unnecessary things in your room makes it look and feel warmer than usual. Remember that open spaces often exude a cool, breezy feeling.

Paint your bedroom with a light or neutral colour because it reflects heat. White, beige, light blue, bright yellow, or light pink are great examples. Dark shades such as midnight blue or deep red absorb heat and make the space warm. Furthermore, try to minimise the inclusion of designs and make the walls as simple as possible.

Take away those thick curtains and replace them with thin, silky drapes. The thin material allows air to pass through while filtering out the harsh sunlight. In addition, the slow movement of the drapes as the breeze blows through them makes the place feel cooler.

If you do not have air conditioning, open the windows and let air in. You can have an expert install window screens in order to keep insects and debris out while allowing the breeze to get inside.

Get rid of carpeting because the material absorbs heat. Instead, opt for light-coloured wooden floors or tiles that bounce off the heat. As a decorative touch, place a rug by the bedside.

Finally, for your decorations, choose adornments that resemble ice. Glass vases that are filled with pebbles and fortune plants or bright blossoms will surely add an atmosphere of coolness to the place. You can also try checking speciality decoration stores for plastic icicles that you can place on top of your window frame.

Iceland is one of the nicest countries that you would want to visit during your European tour. To make your stay more enjoyable and convenient, it would be best if you could bring along a few electronic gadgets.

Bringing a mobile phone should be your number one priority. You can communicate with friends, relatives, colleagues, partners and emergency services without having to hunt for a landline. This is especially important considering that you are in another country. It is also a good idea to carry a spare battery in case your phone’s power runs out and you cannot find a convenient outlet to plug in your charger.

You should also bring a laptop with the capability to access the Internet. This is a useful device since it allows you to keep in touch with the rest of the world, communicate with people, watch videos, listen to music, browse for information, or write documents. With a laptop, you can also store digital files of documents, music, and photos any time, anywhere.

If you are the adventurous type planning to scale the mountains, explore little-known areas, or cruise around unfamiliar roads in cities and towns in Iceland, then a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver is an ideal gadget to keep in hand. A GPS unit allows you to pinpoint your location with accuracy, making it easier for you to spot where you are or to get to a more familiar place in case you are lost.

Finally, as mentioned before, Iceland has many great things to offer—beautiful sceneries, interesting people, cool attractions, and exciting culture. Capture all these by bringing a digital camera. Although initially expensive, this device is more cost-effective because you do not have to buy film or pay the cost of developing the film into photographs.

Just like travelling to other parts of the world, it is important to know what to expect before you fly to Iceland. First, you need to research on where you will find your country’s embassy, which should come in handy if you experience any problem regarding your passport or visa. Second, you also have to know who you can call for help should there be an emergency.

Once you have acquired such information, store it and carry it with you because you never know when you are going to need it while you are spending your holidays in the country. Third, you also have to familiarise yourself with their culture so as not to offend anyone or commit any violation of their laws. In line with this, you also need to know their currency and have some cash ready in case you come across a shop or restaurant that does not accept credit cards. By gathering as much information about Iceland as possible, you are ensuring that you will have a successful trip to this nation.

As such, the off road adventure is definitely an exhilarating experience you should not miss if you travel here.

To easily manoeuvre your way when you tread off the beaten track, we suggest you rent one of the infamous Super Jeeps that are rugged off-road vehicles, especially modified by Icelanders to cope with their unique terrain. These amazing vehicles can easily climb high places, where you will be welcomed with spectacular views all around. Typically, if you book one of these sturdy machines, you will be picked up from your hotel or guesthouse in Reykjavik. You will then be taken on a tour around the city for four to five hours. So, what are you waiting for – book a very exciting and magical Iceland holiday now!
